Volunteers needed to trim trees Saturday

Volunteers are needed to remove invasive plants from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 14 at Taylor Point, the 20-acre town park situated beneath the Newport Pell Bridge.

Workers are needed to remove morrow honeysuckle that is damaging the black cherry woodland south of the beach at Potter’s Cove. Volunteers should bring work gloves and loping shears, although extra tools will be available. Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended. Parking is available in the lot along Freebody Drive.

The cleanup is being organized by the Taylor Point Restoration Association, a volunteer civic organization that was formed to eradicate invasive plants and establish native species. To learn about membership, call Dennis Webster at 423-1808.
