Town gets $11K from state for pump-out sites

Jamestown has received $11,535 from the state to maintain its public pump-out stations at East Ferry and Dutch Harbor.

The money is part of almost $180,000 in grants from the Department of Environmental Management doled out statewide for pump-outs, which conveniently let boaters properly dispose of boat sewage that otherwise introduce bacteria, toxic chemicals and other pathogens into the water that can harm marine life.

The town will use $2,160 to purchase replacement parts and perform maintenance on the two pump-outs, while $9,375 will be spent relocating the existing East Ferry facility because of the scheduled reconfiguration to the parking lot.
