Police Chief Ed Mello, center, was recognized at the State House for leading Jamestown to StormReady preparedness. The National Weather Service designation is given to cities and towns that take a proactive approach to preparing their communities for intensifying storms. Rhode Island is the first state in the nation to have all its municipalities certified. With Mello at the Friday ceremony are Peter Gaynor, director of the state Emergency Management Agency, and Gov. Gina Raimondo.
