Multimedia exhibit at library opens Monday

A multimedia exhibition and film about social justice opens at 6 p.m. May 14 at the library, 26 North Road.

“Seeking Shelter: A Story of Place, Faith and Resistance” tells a Rhode Island story of Vietnam War-era activism and celebrates the healing power of community.

During the tumultuous 1960s, two friends, the Rev. Daniel Berrigan and attorney William Stringfellow, campaigned for civil rights, nuclear disarmament and environmental conservation.

The exhibit was created by a group of Block Islanders who treasure New Shoreham’s natural beauty and sense of community. The accompanying film, “Seeking Shelter,” directed by Sue Hagedorn, explores the installation’s themes through the recollections of people who knew the story’s central figures.

The exhibit will remain on display through July 22. Call Ken Yellis at 619-4524 to learn more about the project.
