Golf course event proceeds to benefit Gloria Gemma

Tickets are being sold at Cathryn Jamieson Salon for a fundraiser that will benefit the Gloria Gemma Foundation, which raises money to fight breast cancer.

The efforts are being organized by Doreen Furtado, a North Road resident whose daughter-in-law died in June 2015 from stage IV inflammatory breast cancer, a rare and aggressive disease with a median survival rate of 21 months. The fundraiser is schedule from 4-7 p.m. May 20 at the Jamestown Golf Course, 245 Conanicus Ave. Admission is $30, which includes hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken and all the fixings, according to Furtado. There also will be raffles, live music and a cash bar.

Furtado is raising the money to walk in the Gloria Gemma 44-mile charity walk in June at Goddard Park. Call her at 545- 0674 to learn more or purchase tickets.
